Man accused of killing teen who protected mother faces judge

A man accused of killing an 18-year-old restaurant worker was in court Monday.

Jeffrey Archangel, 25, is charged with killing Javier Flores during the robbery of a Subway in February.

Prosecutors said Monday that Flores' mother identified Archangel as the shooter. They said investigators also found the murder weapon and the getaway car at Archangel's apartment.

Investigators said a man who was living in the apartment said Archangel confessed to him and threatened to kill him if he went to police.

Community activist Quanell X orchestrated Archangel's surrender Friday to police. After his surrender, Quanell said Archangel claims to be innocent and even claims to have an audio recording of the real killer confessing.

For now, Archangel remains in jail without bond.
