Click2Daily: Police academy bridges gap between teens, law enforcement

HOUSTON – Bridging the gap between teenagers and law enforcement in our area -- that’s the focus of Harris County Precinct 5's Teen Police Academy.

The agency started the program last year. Now, they are taking it on the road, expanding into two area school districts.

Harris County Precinct 5 is now partnering with Spring Branch Independent School District and the Teen Police Academy program is about to expand into the Katy Independent School District.

The goal of the program is to foster understanding and communication between police and teens.

Participants are given a behind-the-scenes look at Precinct 5 and will experience first-hand what it takes to be a deputy.

The program covers everything from use-of-force and arrest procedures to officer safety and equipment training.

Join KPRC 2’s Andy Cerota as he gives you a behind the scenes look at Precinct 5’s Teen Police Academy and the impact it’s having on teens in parts of west Harris County.
