HOUSTON – The attorney representing a man charged in a murder-for-hire plot withdrew Thursday from the case.
Leon Jacob and his girlfriend, Valerie McDaniel, were charged with soliciting capital murder after being accused of trying to arrange the deaths of McDaniel’s ex-husband and Jacob’s ex-girlfriend.
McDaniel committed suicide Monday by jumping off the River Oaks high-rise where she lived.
Jacob, who was initially denied bond, was in court Wednesday for a reconsideration of that decision. Attorney George Parnham represented Jacob during the hearing.
Parnham filed a motion Thursday morning to withdraw from the case.
“I’m sure the judge will sign it,” Parnham said after filing the motion.
The judge granted Parnham's motion early Thursday afternoon.
Parnham would not give a reason for his request, but said he did not want to do anything that would reflect negatively on Jacob’s defense.
Jacob's second request for bond was denied.
