Officer exchanges gunfire with 2 armed men in SW Houston, police say

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – A Houston police officer was involved in a shooting Thursday, according to authorities.

Police said an armed man and a Houston Police Department officer exchanged gunfire in the 15900 block of Blue Ridge Road around 1:55 p.m.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

The officer was conducting surveillance in southwest Houston in Fort Bend County when he heard gunshots in the area, police said.

He drove toward the location he though the shots were coming from and saw a vehicle speeding away, according to authorities.

The officer followed the vehicle to the Blue Ridge address, where he was fired at by a man in the vehicle, police said.

The officer returned fire out of fear for his life, according to authorities. The two men in the vehicle then sped off.

The officer notified dispatch of what happened and continued following the vehicle, police said. The men fired at the officer a second time, but the officer did not return fire, according to authorities.

Additional officers arrived and conducted a felony traffic stop in the 1000 block of Derby Lane, where both men were taken into custody, according to police.

The men are being held in the Fort Bend County Jail with charges pending.

Their identities are not being released at this time.

As is customary in situations where an officer discharges his weapon within the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs divisions.
