Click2Daily: 'Girls on the Run Greater Houston' provides self-esteem boost

HOUSTON – How much value and importance do you place on your daughter’s self-esteem and confidence?

In today’s society, navigating life can be extremely tough and challenging for young girls.

They are constantly faced with the pressures of fitting in and often experience pitfalls as they attempt to chart their own course to become independent thinkers while forging and maintaining strong relationships with their peers.

A national program with strong ties to Houston is helping many adolescent girls in the area achieve that kind of success.

It’s called “Girls on the Run Greater Houston."

Organizers tout it as an entirely new way of helping young girls to elevate their self-esteem and develop the necessary building blocks that create strong character, all through recreational running.

The program is on 70 school campuses across Houston.

Channel 2’s Andy Cerota is spending the afternoon with some of these young ladies as they practice for this Saturday’s 5K run and he’s learning more about what it means for them to learn, dream, live and run.
