Coast Guard suspends search for missing cruise ship crew member

HOUSTON – The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday suspended the search for a cruise ship crew member who was reported missing Monday about 170 miles southeast of Galveston, officials said.

The incident was reported at 4:30 a.m. after a Liberty of the Seas bartender did not come to work as scheduled.

Officials said that Norman DeCastro, 39, from the Philippines, was last seen aboard at 10:30 p.m. Sunday on the cruise ship's closed-circuit television, officials said.

Coast Guard officials said they are searched over 5,000 square nautical miles southeast of Galveston.

Royal Caribbean cruise line officials released the following statement:

"Our Care Team is providing support to our crew member's family, as well as his friends and colleagues onboard, and our thoughts and prayers are with them."
