Man, 61, charged in four-decade-old murder of Houston man

HOUSTON – A 61-year-old man has been charged with slaying a man nearly 41 years ago, Harris County Sheriff's Office cold case investigators said.

The nude body of a man was found May 11, 1976, on an oil field road north of the 3000 block of Atascocita Road.

The victim suffered from multiple stab wounds and cuts on his torso, head and neck, deputies said.

The Houston man was later identified as Rene Anthony Guillotte, 28.

Investigators said Guillotte was last seen leaving a bar at about 1 a.m. May 11 in the Montrose area of Houston.

Investigators searched the area and conducted interviews with witnesses.

The cold case unit reviewed the case in July 2014.

Investigators were able to link physical evidence recovered at the crime scene and evidence recovered at the autopsy to David Lee Edds, officials said.

Investigators said that Edds lived near the crime scene at the time of the murder.

Cold case investigators questioned Edds earlier this year. Edds told officials that he did not know Guillotte, had not been to the crime scene and had no knowledge of his death, officials said.

Investigators said he offered no explanation for why he was linked to the crime scene and to Guillotte by physical evidence.

Investigators said that Edds was charged in 1977 with assaulting a man with a knife.

Edds has a lengthy criminal history dating back to his juvenile years.
