All mainlanes on I-10 East at John Martin reopen after deadly multiple-vehicle crash

BAYTOWN, Texas – All mainlanes on I-10 East have reopened after two 18-wheelers and multiple other vehicles collided Saturday morning, officials said.

The accident occurred at 10:10 a.m. on I-10 East  at John Martin Road, just minutes after I-10 East had been reopened to traffic. 

I-10 East at Sjolander Road had been closed earlier Saturday after five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident. 

Officials said after the I-10 was reopened a 26-year-old from Alabama driving 18-wheeler rear-ended a pickup truck carrying a 67-year-old Woodlands man and a 39-year-old spring man. 

When the 18--wheeler rear-ened the truck and pushed the truck forward into another 18-wheeler crushing the pickup between the two 18-wheelers, police said. 

Baytown police said the 67-year-old man died and the scene and his passenger was taken by helicopter to the hospital. 

The 26-year-old 18-wheeler driver was taken to Houston San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in stable condition. 

The accident was cleared at 4:40 p.m.
