Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in NE Houston

HOUSTON – A man was fatally struck by a vehicle when crossing a street Thursday in northeast Houston, police said.

The incident was reported at 2:55 p.m. in the 6300 block of Lyons Avenue.

Houston police said the man, 68, attempted to cross the street near a crosswalk when he was struck by a gold Toyota Tundra. Police said the man failed to yield the right of way when the driver of the Toyota had the green light.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was questioned and consented to test for intoxication. Police said the driver did not show signs of intoxication and was released with no charges.

The incident is under investigation.
