Massive fire destroys house in southeast Houston

A fire tore through a house in southeast Houston Monday.

Firefighters were called just after 2:30 a.m. to a house on Orem, just east of Foxton, for reports of a house fire.

Firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames and lots of debris in the yard, making it hard to fight the fire, officials said.

It took about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames, firefighters said. They were monitoring hot spots.

A young woman showed up at the house claiming her mother lived there alone, and she had not heard from her. The mother later arrived at the house.

The arson unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
