Man surrenders to SWAT after barricading himself in his Baytown home for 8 hours, authorities say

BAYTOWN, TX – A SWAT standoff lasted for 8 hours in Baytown after a man barricaded himself in his home Saturday afternoon.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to the home for a weapons disturbance call at 4400 block of Crossvine Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday where a man was believed to be inside. 

Deputies said they tried to communicate with the homeowner, but he refused to answer, so they began the standoff at 6:15 p.m. 

Authorities attempted to negotiate with the man for hours before resorting to throwing tear gas canisters into the house. 

The man finally surrendered to officials around 12:30 a.m.

The man's identity is unknown.
