Lightning strike causes house fire, officials say

HOUSTON – A family's house went up in flames Wednesday after a lightning storm blew through Houston, officials said.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department responded around 10:30 a.m. to a fire at 4518 Pine Hollow Trace.

A couple who lived in the house told firefighters that they were sitting on the back porch watching the storm when lightning hit the house.

The couple said they smelled smoke shortly after the lightning strike and they stayed outside.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames. It is unknown how much damage the fire caused, officials said.
