Deputy shoots man twice after he tried to run him over in N. Harris County, officials say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A driver was shot by a deputy Sunday in north Harris County.

A deputy was responding to another call just after 10 p.m., when he was flagged down by two people in the 8700 block of Airline Drive.

A woman told the deputy she had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend and he hit her several times. The deputy went to talk to the man, who was nearby in a silver Jeep. The deputy asked the man to get out of the vehicle, but he drove the Jeep toward the deputy.

The deputy pulled his gun and shot the Jeep several times on the driver's side, investigators said.

"The vehicle fled and went north on Airline, (and)stopped at West Gulf Bank. HPD officers took the guy into custody at the scene," a deputy said.

The man  was shot in his buttocks and lower leg.

He was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition.

The woman suffered minor injuries and the deputy was not hit.

The man is facing charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

The deputy is on administrative leave for at least five days as part of the investigation.
