Deputies say the man shot Wilfredo Ayestas in the head about 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 14, after Ayestas stopped to help three people inside a stalled white vehicle.

Authorities say Ayestas rolled down his window to ask if they needed help, but a man inside the vehicle pulled out a handgun and had a confrontation with him.

Ayestas, who was with his wife and children, fled the scene, but returned to the area moments later and drove into an apartment complex in the 700 block of Richcrest Drive. Authorities say he was shot by the man, who confronted him in the parking lot.

Ayestas died at the hospital.
