Man hospitalized after being shot in NE Houston, officials say

HOUSTON –  A gunman is on the loose and a man has been hospitalized after being shot in the stomach after a fight Saturday.

Houston police said a fight broke out between neighbors who were standing outside their apartment building at 6606 Lockwood Drive around 3 a.m.

Officers said the fight escalated when someone pulled a gun and shot Gilbert Rubalcava.

“He’s expected to live, he had one gunshot wound to his abdomen,” Andrew Barr, an officer with the Houston Police Department, said. “There were at least two shots fired according to witnesses out here on the scene, but we’re still looking for more evidence.”

Police don’t know what led to the fight, but the wife of Rubalcava said they have been complaining about the loud noises coming from their neighbors house.

Rubalcava underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
