Former Republican congressman Steve Stockman speaks out in federal court

HOUSTON – Former Houston-area congressman, Steve Stockman went back before a federal judge Friday. Stockman is accused of conspiring with two former employees to funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars for his own use.

Stockman said the allegations are untrue and prosecutors are trying to settle a score.

“They've had several chances to bite at the apple and they all failed. They will fail at this too,” Stockman said.

He said the charges are payback for his efforts to prosecute former IRS Director Lois Lerner in 2013.

“This is part of the deep state... it's going to end shortly and I appreciate that,” Stockman said. According to the federal complaint, Stockman set up a nonprofit organization based in Las Vegas.

Prosecutors said a single contributor donated $350,000 to the charity, which Stockman is then accused of funneling back to himself.
