Police seek public's help in identifying man who attempted to steal woman's purse

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Sugar Land police are asking  for the public's help in identifying a man who attempted to steal a woman's purse in a Walmart store. 

Police said a woman left her purse unattended Feb. 17 in her grocery cart at Walmart at 345 State Highway 6.

When the woman and her husband returned to the cart, they found that the woman's purse was missing, officials said. 

The woman's husband spotted a man walking away with his wife's purse, so he ran after the man and tackled him, police said. 

When the victim's husband tackled the accused thief, a gun fell out of his waistband.

The accused thief stood up, grabbed the gun and pointed it at the man and his wife, police said. 

The thief dropped the woman's purse, ran out of the store and fled in a white Toyota passenger vehicle at 8:40 p.m., police said. 

Authorities described the thief as a  black man.  5 feet, 4 inches tall in his 20s or 30s. Police said he was wearing glasses, a black hat and a forest green jacket with dark pants.
