UT Austin student hikers rescued from Columbia River Gorge in Oregon after getting lost

A group of lost hikers, students from UT Austin, had to be rescued by search and rescues crews Tuesday from the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon after one hiker slipped on snow and fell.

The rescue crews got a distress call around 3 p.m. and found the hikers two hours later.

The 12 hikers were from Austin, Texas, and had gotten lost between Multnomah falls and Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia River Gorge national scenic area, according to officials.

Authorities said when they reached the hikers they attempted to tend to the injured hiker first, but despite being cold and injures the student declined medical treatment.
