Bail set at $200,000 for man accused of killing grandmother

HOUSTON – A man accused of killing his grandmother and then hiding her body appeared Tuesday in court.

Nathan Billingsley, 21, was charged with murder in the death of Hazel Billingsley, 67.

Investigators said Hazel Billingsley’s body was found Sunday afternoon wrapped in a blanket in a shed behind a home on East Longwood Meadows. She had been shot several times, according to investigators.

Nathan Billingsley told investigators that he accidentally shot his grandmother twice while he was handling a gun, according to prosecutors.

A judge set Nathan Billingsley’s bond at $200,000 during Tuesday’s hearing. He was also ordered to stay away from his girlfriend and his mother, whom prosecutors said he had threatened.

According to court records, Nathan Billingsley’s girlfriend told investigators that she heard gunshots and went inside, but was told by her boyfriend to leave or he would hurt her.
