Lockdown for 2 HISD schools lifted after deadly shooting in SE Houston

HOUSTON – Two Houston Independent School District campuses in southeast Houston were on lockdown as police searched the area after a man was shot and killed.

Thomas Middle School and Sterling High School were on lockdown after police said someone was shot near 5701 Selinsky Road around 1:48 p.m. The lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later after police said the area was clear.

Police said a group of people were walking on the sidewalk to an apartment complex at 5701 Selinsky Road, when a black sedan with three people inside pulled up next to the group and began shooting.

A man who was walking in the group of people was shot and taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

The lockdowns were not a result of the officer-involved shootings in southwest Houston.

KPRC will provide updates when they become available.
