HOUSTON – It's been a busy couple of months for Major Applewhite. In December, he was hired as head coach for the University of Houston's football team. Now, he is receiving another big honor - serving as marshal for the rodeo parade.

UH sent out a press release Monday announcing its new coach's prestigious rodeo role.

Applewhite and his family will lead the parade, followed by other local dignitaries, marching bands, floats and thousands of trail riders.

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo parade starts at 10 a.m. is Saturday.

The parade route begins at Bagby and Walker Streets, travels from Travis to Bell Street, and from Bell Street to Louisiana Street, before turning on Lamar Street, and ends at Lamar and Bagby.

This is the second year in a row that a UH football coach has served as parade marshal. Former head coach Tom Herman was parade marshal last year. Herman is now the head football coach at the University of Houston.
