Galveston causeway bridge closed for emergency train stop

GALVESTON, Texas – An emergency train stop forced the closure of the Galveston causeway bridge for a short time Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

According to the Coast Guard, vessels were unable to travel around the Galveston Causeway bridge, while crews were trying to put a train back on the railroad tracks after it partially derailed.

The unexpected closure of the bridge was first reported at 6 a.m. and the bridge reopened again at noon Sunday.
