Gas station clerk shoots, kills man during attempted robbery, police say


HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery on Monday.

The incident was reported at 3:45 p.m. at 6643 Cullen Blvd.

Police said a 48-year-old man entered the Cullen Mart store about 2:45 p.m., looked around and left the store without saying anything. Police said the man returned to the store about an hour later, walked up to the counter and punched the clerk in the face several times, while demanding cash.

The clerk, who is licensed to carry, pulled out a gun and fired three shots.

The man who was shot was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The clerk was not seriously injured. 

The man's identity has not been released.
