FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Friendswood police said they caught a man, who is accused of breaking into several vehicle, napping in a van.
According to police, an officer was patrolling about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and noticed someone sleeping in a blue minivan behind a grocery store loading dock. As the officer approached the van, police said, the occupant opened the driver's side door and stepped out of the vehicle.
Friendswood police identified the person in the van as Gamaliel Covarrubias, 24, of Arcola.
Covarrubias was very forthcoming with the officer, admitting to several infractions, police said.
Police said the officer asked Covarrubias if he had anything illegal inside the vehicle, and he said he had some marijuana. The officer searched the vehicle, found two baggies of marijuana and a marijuana pipe, police said.
The officer continued searching the van and found four credit cards with different names on them and three cellphones, police said. When the officer asked Covarrubias which phone belonged to him, he told the officer that he had stolen the phones, police said.
Investigators said they believe Covarrubias stole the phones from unlocked cars.
Covarrubias was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.
