Father arrested after children found with cocaine in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON – Deputies took Curtis Champ, Jr. into custody on Wednesday for an arrest warrant while he was waiting for a court appearance.

Champ walked into the hallway. The bailiff escorted him back into the courtroom to a holding cell.

The warrant was issued on Wednesday.

Champ Jr. was charged with two counts of endangering a child after his 2-year-old girls were found with cocaine at a northwest Harris County apartment complex.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a call from a security guard at the Costa Ibiza Apartments in the 17200 block of Hafer Road on Monday around 2 p.m.

"The security officer noticed that one of the children had a plastic baggie that had white substance in it. She was carrying it around. They ended up testing the substance and it ended up being cocaine with a weight of 8 grams,” said the prosecutor.

KPRC will update with more information as it becomes available.
