Family pleads for help in solving grandfather's murder

HOUSTON – A grandfather was murdered on Christmas Eve and now his family is pleading for information to help track down his killer.

The family of 48-year-old Sherman Rambo joined Quanell X, the leader of the New Black Panther Party in Houston, at the intersection where Rambo was killed.

Police said Rambo and another man had been arguing on Phlox Street when the suspect pulled out a gun and fatally shot Rambo. Police said Rambo fell into a ditch and the gunman shot him several more times.

In a press conference held on Friday, X said many members of the community believe this was a gang initiation killing.

X and the victim's family members said more needs to be done to keep this community safe.

Police described the gunman as black, about 6 feet tall and weighing between 200 and 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, blue jeans, a dark-colored baseball cap and a gold necklace. He was last seen driving a dark-colored Suburban with 20-inch chrome rims and chrome trim along the bottom of the doors.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
