HOUSTON – HISD is changing the way it uses STAAR test results.

The Board of Trustees voted Thursday night to no longer use the tests to determine if students will advance to third, fourth, sixth and seventh grades.

They voted 7-2 to scrap the rule.

The state requires the scores be tied to promotions for fifth- and eighth-graders to the next level.
