Chilly Sunday, warmer weather ahead

HOUSTON – After an overnight freeze, abundant sunshine will take temperatures quickly to 50 degrees Sunday afternoon.  That is still cool for this time of year in Houston, but it marks the start of a significant warming trend for the area.

Cool, crisp, sunny weather will dominate most of Texas on Sunday.  High pressure hanging overhead is the driving force behind the nice finish to the weekend.  It will eventually migrate east of Texas and begin to provide a southeast wind flow, off the Gulf of Mexico, which will take us into a more spring-like weather pattern for the coming week.

The warm weather will come in quickly.  Morning lows Monday will be well above freezing, from the upper 30s to the mid 40s area-wide.  Afternoon highs will be in the upper 60s.

By Tuesday, highs will be in the upper 70s.  And on Thursday we could hit 80 degrees!

Along with the warmer temperatures, cloud cover and humidity will be on the rise.  Light showers could sprinkle the landscape beginning Thursday, with higher chances of rain heading into the weekend as our next cold front approaches.
