Houston police investigate apparent hit-and-run

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a man was found dead Wednesday at 3700 Gulf Freeway.

Lowell Clemons, father of two, was found after a caller reported seeing a body in a grassy area under a freeway ramp near Milby Street, police said.

Police said Clemons death is believed to be connected to a hit-and-run hours earlier.

Police said at some point during the night, Clemons was northbound on the Gulf Freeway when he pulled over for an unknown reason and parked his vehicle.

Clemons was walking along the freeway when he was struck and killed by a driver who left the scene, according to police.

His body was found around 10:50 a.m.

A truck had been towed from the freeway around 5:30 a.m., and tow truck drivers did not report seeing anyone at that time because the man's body was not on the road.

There are no witnesses or suspect vehicle description at this time, police said.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

KPRC will provide updates when they become available.
