Police investigate fatal New Year's Day crash

Alcohol, speed believed to be factor, police say


HOUSTON – Police are investigating a fatal crash at 1100 West Gulf Bank Road on New Year's Day.

Police said the victim, who has not yet been identified, was driving a white Cadillac east around 5:40 a.m. when he veered out of the lane and struck a tree in the center median.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said they believe alcohol and speed were a factor, but they continue to investigate the crash.
