HOUSTON – Firefighters continued their battle Monday morning against a fire that started Sunday night at a furniture warehouse in southwest Houston.
The two-alarm fire was reported about 7 p.m. at the Dickinson Furniture warehouse at 7015 Grand Blvd.
According to the Houston Fire Department, nearly 80 firefighters were called to the scene and were still spraying water on hot spots Monday morning.
The warehouse was packed full of furniture, firefighters said. Some of the furniture was stacked floor to ceiling and provided a lot of fuel for the blaze.
“We can’t actually go into the building because we’re worried about some of that collapsing onto our firefighters, so we’re fighting a fire from outside,” HFD spokesman Blake White said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
By 7 a.m., firefighters had started scaling back the operation.
