Suspect named in shooting death near Gulfgate Center Mall

HOUSTON – Police named a suspect Thursday in a shooting that killed a man earlier this week near Gulfgate Center Mall.

The shooting was reported about 8 p.m. in the 7100 block of Village Way.

According to Houston police, Arturo Ramierz, 27, got into an argument with Lamar Cooks, 27, in the parking lot of the Concord at Gulfgate Apartments.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and then seeing Ramirez run out of the parking lot and collapse on the sidewalk, police said.

Ramirez died at Ben Taub Hospital, police said.

Cooks was charged with murder in connection with the case.
