Son accused of stabbing woman to death while she was on phone

HOUSTON – Family, friends and community members will gather Thursday morning at Southwest Community Baptist Church  to remember the life of Dedre Jefferson.

She was stabbed to death Dec. 14 in her Garden Grove Court home by her son, Blake Jefferson, while she was on the phone, police said.

According to investigators, Dedre Jefferson was talking to her mother when Blake Jefferson brutally stabbed her. He broke into a nearby home and tried to hide from police, authorities said.

Dedre Jefferson told her mother that her son was acting strange before he started to stab her, investigators said.

Three days before the murder,  a post by Blake Jefferson's on Facebook indicated that he might have been wrestling with some issues.

"Don't lose your Queen trying to find yourself because I did. But I trust  and believe God will bring my Queen back..." one post read.

Dedre Jefferson was a member of Southwest Community Baptist Church and was on the board of the Alief Independent School District. Those who knew her said she had a passion for education.

A public viewing will begin at the church at 9 a.m. Jefferson's funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at Southwest Community Baptist Church is located at 14880 Bellaire Boulevard.

The burial will follow at Forest Brooke Cemetery on Westheimer.
