18-wheeler crash causes fuel spill on Eastex Freeway

HOUSTON – Crews spent nearly five hours Wednesday cleaning up a fuel spill from an 18-wheeler accident on the East Freeway exit ramp to the southbound Eastex Freeway. 

According to police, two 18-wheelers collided on the ramp at around 10 p.m., causing one of them to crash through a guardrail.

The fuel tanks ruptured, spilling diesel fuel across the road. Firefighters extinguished a small fire at the scene. 

The exit ramp reopened at 3:05 a.m. Thursday. 

The drivers were not hurt.
