Newborn babies go home wearing Christmas stockings

Each stocking made by hand by volunteer group

SAN ANTONIO – A Christmas tradition continues in San Antonio this week at Methodist Hospital, where newborn babies are going home wearing a stocking.

Each stocking is handmade by the Bluebirds of Methodist Hospital, a volunteer group that does a lot of important jobs for staff and patients.

The Bluebirds on stocking duty said this is one of their favorite times of the year. In addition to the stocking, each baby gets a hat and the family gets a keepsake.

The tradition goes back about 50 years.

The stocking will continue to go on newborns at Methodist Hospital through Dec. 29.
