Two men found hiding in woods after stealing, ditching truck during chase, officials say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Two men led deputies on a chase after a neighbor reported witnessing the two men stealing a truck from the Liberty Lakes subdivision, deputies said.

Harris County deputies received a report around 12:30 a.m. Thursday that a resident of the Liberty Lakes subdivision off East Sam Houston Parkway and Highway 90 witnessed two men breaking into his neighbor's truck and taking off, officials said.

According to deputies, the resident jumped into his own car and followed the two men who had just stolen his neighbor's truck.

Deputies caught up to the vehicles and attempted to pull over the stolen truck, but the driver sped off and a chase began, authorities said.

Deputies said the two men drove around for a while before ditching the truck on Parkhurst Drive near Snowden Street and running into a wooded area.

Harris County deputies and the Houston Police Department set up a perimeter and the K-9 unit tracked down the two men, according to officials.

One of the two men hiding in the woods was bitten by the K-9 and treated for a minor wound, authorities said.

Both men were arrested and will be charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, deputies said.
