Person hit by multiple vehicles, killed in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old man was hit by two vehicles and killed Wednesday in southeast Houston.

The crash was reported around 4 a.m. in the 15500 block of Galveston Road.

Police said the man, who was not in a crosswalk, was trying to cross Highway 3 when he was hit by a minivan and at least one other vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity is pending verification by the county.

Vivian Vonell Vance, 48, was driving a burgundy Nissan Quest southbound on Galveston Road when she struck the man, police said. Vance stopped at a gas station until police arrived, according to police.

Houston police determined Vance to be impaired, and she was taken into custody.

While Vance was waiting at the gas station, the victim was struck by another vehicle, whose driver also remained at the scene, according to police. That driver was questioned and released by police.

Galveston Road was closed in both directions between El Dorado and Beringer Lane in the area as police investigated.
