DEVERS, Texas – Four employees of the Smith Oil Co. were injured Monday morning after a drilling rig blew back mud in Devers.
The incident was reported about 7 a.m. on Lease Road near CR 2087.
Liberty County Sheriff Deputy James McQueen said seven employees were in the process of packing the rig with drilling mud when the mud blew back and injured four workers.
McQueen said there was no fire or explosion.
All four men were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Safety personnel from the oil company are investigating the cause of the drilling mud blowback.
