Reports: LSU closing in on deal with UH's Tom Herman

HOUSTON – Louisiana State University is close to striking a deal with University of Houston head coach Tom Herman, according to multiple media outlets, including ESPN.

Herman met with LSU officials in Houston on Thursday, according to reports.

The reports said the deal could become official as early as Saturday.

Hunter Yurachek, UH Vice President for Athletics, said he had not heard of any deal with LSU being reached.

"I have not been informed by Tom or his agent that he's accepted a position at LSU. We are in Mem., preparing for a game," Yurachek said.

ESPN is also reporting that Tom Herman may be interested in the University of Texas head coaching gig if the school decides to make a change from current head coach Charlie Strong.

LSU fired Les Miles on Sept. 25 after the team's 2-2 start to the season. Louisiana native Ed Orgeron is currently interim head coach at LSU.

LSU posted this tweet on the football team's account on Thursday night.

The Tigers are also reportedly interested in Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.

LSU defeated Texas A&M Thursday night.

Billionaire Tilman Fertitta, who is chairman of the Board of Regents of the University of Houston System, has said that he would personally pay to help keep Herman with the Cougars.
