DPS troopers greet injured trooper as he returns home

HOUSTON – A trooper for the Department of Public Safety who was seriously injured after a suspected drunken-driving crash returned home Wednesday morning after a lengthy stay at a hospital and a rehabilitation center.

Trooper Chad Blackburn, who remains in a wheelchair, was greeted by a group of DPS troopers outside the rehabilitation center in League City.

The troopers took Blackburn home in a DPS vehicle, and several others escorted him and his family to their house.

Investigators said Tuwanna Moore, 31, was driving drunk when she slammed her car into the back of Blackburn's cruiser in September.

Blackburn was working routine patrol on the Gulf Freeway shoulder near NASA Road 1 at the time of the crash.
