Charges filed against 'backyard' burglary scammers, deputies say

HOUSTON – Three men have been charged in connection with a home theft scam, according to Harris County Precinct 1 constable deputies.

Deputies said the scam victimized older residents in Braeswood Place, Shepherd Park Plaza, Tanglewood and other areas of Houston.

Burglary charges were filed Tuesday against John Thompson, 40, and Paul Frank, 42.

A third suspect, 57-year-old Sonny Frank, who is a relative of Paul Frank, was charged Wednesday with burglary for stealing jewelry Oct. 22 from a home in the 1100 block of Chantilly in Shepherd Park Plaza.

Deputies said the scammers posed as tree trimmers or construction workers who needed access to the victim’s backyard. While one thief was outside, the other thief would sneak into homes and steal money, jewelry and other items, deputies said

Deputies said there could be a fourth person involved.
