Kids' Meals Inc. delivers Thanksgiving meals to Houston area families in need

A local organization made sure needy families in Houston were not hungry this Thanksgiving.

“It’s very much needed because some families are less fortunate, so we have some help out here today,” said father Sterling Davis.

It was a special delivery for Davis and his family.

“We’re in between jobs. I’m really trying to get certified in CDL to become a City of Houston worker, so it’s kind of hard right now,” said Davis.

But to make it a little easier, organization Kids’ Meals started work early Monday.

The group loaded food at its headquarters in Garden Oaks and then headed to HEB to stock up on the turkeys.

For four years, 17-year-old Carli Jones has volunteered.

“Whenever you go on the routes, you get to see the kids smiling faces and it’s really rewarding getting to see what you don’t have and being able to give back,” said Jones.

Kids’ Meals will deliver 1,200 meals to less fortunate families in the Houston area this week.

“I got turkey, cranberry sauce, everybody needs that for Thanksgiving,” said mother Effelia Shine. “We need it. Communities like us need it."

But, it’s not only for Thanksgiving. The organization delivers free meals to hungry preschool-aged children year-round.

“It’s a joy, especially when my kids see...my kids you know, when I come in and cook the turkey. It’s a joy,” said Davis.
