Man accused of killing Spring restaurant owner faces capital murder charges

HOUSTON – The man arrested Wednesday in connection with the September death of a restaurant owner in Spring appeared in court Thursday.

John Wesley Baldwin, 28, is facing a capital murder charge in the shooting death of Adrianus Kusuma. Baldwin's case will go before a grand jury.

Police said Baldwin and another man followed Kusuma and his brother home from their restaurant Sunny Side of the Street on FM 2920. The two men forced their way into the home on Canvasback Glen Court on the night Sept. 18, investigators said. According to police, Baldwin shot and Kusuma and then beat Kusuma's younger brother.

Investigators said the men grabbed cash and ran from the home in a white car.

According to the judge, police have records that show Baldwin's cellphone pinging at the victim's house and restaurant.

Neighbors also took pictures the day before the slaying in front of Kusuma's house of what may be Baldwin's car, the judge said.

Baldwin is being held in jail with no bail.  He is expected in court Nov. 28.
