Man released from jail for prior sex crime fails to register as sex offender

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Police are asking for the public's help with information on the whereabouts of Juan Carlos Soto who was released from jail after serving 10 years for a sex crime and failed to register as sex offender, according to Texas Attorney General's Office.

Soto was convicted and sent to jail on July 31, 2006, for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Matagorda County, authorities said.

Soto spent 10 years in confinement and was released in 2016, according to officials.

On July 9, Harris County sheriff deputies issued a warrant for Soto for failing to register as a sex offender, deputies said.

Deputies describe Soto as a 41-year-old Hispanic man standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Deputies said Soto also goes by the name of Robert or Roberto Demetrio, and was last said to live at 12300 block of Walters Road.

Deputies also said Soto is a documented gang member of the Texas Syndicate.
