Dump truck driver electrocuted after striking power lines in Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A 25-year-old truck driver died Thursday morning after he struck a high-powered electrical line in the Moss Hill area.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas Mendoza Jr., of Baytown, was electrocuted about 10:30 a.m. when he came in contact with electrical lines after he raised the bed portion of his truck at a small dump site.

Police said the rear portion of the truck caught fire, which destroyed the truck.

According to witnesses, Mendoza’s father dragged his son away from the fire and performed CPR on him.

Mendoza was taken to Liberty-Dayton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

 A Liberty County judge ordered an autopsy.
