HOUSTON – The University of Houston is encouraging people to use mass transit and alternative parking options as the campus prepares to welcome thousands of fans for its Thursday night football game.

According to the school’s parking services Facebook page, drivers are strongly urged to park at ERP to avoid gameday congestion.

The parking plan on the school’s website called for some parking lots and the stadium parking garage to be closed at midnight.

More lots will be closed starting at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The PGH/ERP Cougar Line route was rerouted at 7 a.m. and will run until midnight after the game.

At noon, the Cullen Oaks Route will stop running for the day.

Officials also recommended that students, faculty and staff carpool or use METRORail, which is free on days the Cougars play at home.

The Cougars, which are undefeated this season, take on the University of Connecticut Huskies at 7 p.m. at TDECU Stadium. The game will air on ESPN.
