HOUSTON – The off-duty Houston police officer accused of being drunk when he caused a deadly car crash was in court on Thursday.

James Combs, 33, is charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.

Investigators said Combs blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit when he swerved into the oncoming lane and slammed headon into a car, killing the driver, 36-year-old Brian Manring.

Combs will be back in court Sept. 26.
