Ken doll cake turns into LGBT debate

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A Sacramento bakery is getting a lot of buzz over a specialty cake.

A customer ordered a Ken doll cake, and Freeport Bakery delivered, putting a twist on its popular Barbie doll cake.

Co-owner Marlene Goetzeler posted an image of the cake on the Freeport Bakery Facebook page, which generated a lot of attention, both sweet and sour. She said initially, they even lost some followers.

Ken's looking good.

By Monday afternoon, the photo posted on August 13 had hundreds of reactions.

"I just thought the cake was beautiful, the butter cream work was amazing!" Goetzeler told KCRA. "First, I was shocked, then I was surprised and then I was like, "Well, you can't make everyone happy."

The customer who bought the cake said it was all in good fun for their friend's birthday.

Goetzeler said feedback has been pouring in from all over the country, staying mostly positive.

"I don't think there's anything negative about it," customer Cher Moun said. "It's just a cake."
