Suspect charged in crash that killed woman

HOUSTON – A man has been arrested for killing a woman in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning in west Houston.

Orlando Alexis Fortoso, 25, is charged with intoxication manslaughter.

According to police, Fortoso was driving a white Toyota sedan traveling on S. Gessner toward Westheimer around 3 a.m. He lost control, hit a sprinkler system and crashed into a shopping center sign on the opposite side of the roadway.

Police said there were two female passengers in the car. One of the passengers, a 27-year-old woman, was ejected from the backseat and died upon impact.

Fortoso and the front seat passenger were OK, police said.

A field sobriety test determined Fortoso was intoxicated.
