Spring residents show support of hometown Olympian Simone Biles

HOUSTON – As the USA women’s gymnastics team heads into Thursday’s competition, residents in Spring are keeping a close watch on their hometown girl, Simone Biles.

At the Benders Landing Estates in Benders Landing we found a group of Olympics-obsessed women playing an afternoon game of cards.

“I enjoy seeing her out in the community, whether it be at the nail salon, or one of the grocery stores,” said Spring Resident Kenna Wood. “She has really brought our community together.”

The women enjoyed watching Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Games coverage Wednesday afternoon, while playing cards and chatting about Biles.

While driving through the neighborhood drivers can catch a glimpse of a couple “Good Luck Simone” banners hanging from fences.

At the family’s World Championship Centre gym there are messages of support for the “Final Five” colored onto the front windows.

“To see the dynamic changes in this area and to have Simone be a representative of the community is fantastic,” said Karen Young, a board member for the Benders Landing Estates property owners association.

There is a watch party at the Benders Landing Estates clubhouse on Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The World Champions Centre at 28865 Birnham Woods Drive in Spring will hold a Simone Biles signing session on Aug. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on tickets and pre-registration, visit worldchampionscentre.com.
